The Vestry recently approved an exciting change to Grace’s Legacy Society with a goal of providing the financial resources that will sustain Grace Episcopal Church.
Established in 2007, the Grace Legacy Society consists of individuals who have generously provided for Grace Episcopal Church in their estate plans. Legacy Society gifts were invested in the Grace Church’s Endowment Fund and the earnings from that fund were available for certain restricted purposes to support Grace’s ministry programs. This past June, after 17 years of existence, our Endowment Fund had a balance of approximately $14,000 and was only generating approximately $600 in annual income that was available for expenditure on a restricted list of purposes.
Believing we can do better than this, earlier this year the Vestry began considering other options and, with the guidance of a Legacy Giving Working Group, in June approved resolutions (read them here) to adopt a new program that replaces the Endowment Fund with a new Legacy Fund that would encourage unrestricted gifts in support of Grace’s long-term vitality, with such gifting occurring both during one’s lifetime and through their estate plans. These gifted funds will be managed with a goal of generating substantial resources that will be available for use at the discretion of future Vestries, providing a strong foundation on which we believe we can build for Grace’s long-term health as a faith community.
We plan to hold parish-wide informational meetings in the coming months to talk more about this change as well as legacy giving generally, but if you have questions in the meantime, feel free to contact our Wardens Heather Paar or Tom Ringo, our Stewardship Trustee Tootie Kuhn, or our Rector Eric Mason.
